BAT MASSIVE XL: Guided Tour + Event
A nocturnal assembly of art, music and bats PLUS a special guided canoe tour by MAPPA Outdoor.
🦇 Visit Naarm’s bat colony as the species wake for their night in the sky. An experience designed to celebrate the beauty and ecological significance of this nocturnal native creature, join Mappa Outdoor and Up the Creek for an immersive prelude to the Abbotsford Convent’s BAT MASSIVE program.
An opportunity to learn about the history and ecology of the grey-headed flying fox from the unique vantage point of the river.
✨ After the tour, return to Abbotsford Convent at sundown for BAT MASSIVE: a thrilling celebration of music, art and bats.

CANOE TOUR by MAPPA 3PM – 5:30PM, Yarra Bend Park
Guided by founders of Microbats Melbourne, Up the Creek, and Mappa Outdoor — a collective of bat enthusiasts, carers, and experts — this program fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation for the significant role bats play in maintaining the health of our ecosystems.
The experience begins at Abbotsford Convent, from where guests will be transported to a nearby boat launch point. There, participants will learn about the origins of the grey-headed flying foxes and attune their senses to the natural environment before taking to the river by canoe.
Paddling through the colony as the bats wake for their night of flight, participants will have the opportunity to observe the bats more closely, sparking new curiosities and discussions of urban wildlife, ecology, and conservation.
